Parents celebrate teachers

Educators at Albany ISD were provided snacks, meals, and gifts during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6-10, courtesy of the Albany Parent Teacher Organization, parents of local students, Brookshire’s, and the Albany Masons.

“I think that it’s important to recognize the work the teachers do all year,” said PTO president Ginny Ivy. “We want to show our appreciation for all that they do for us and the students.”

The PTO arranged for Prairie Star to provide breakfast to school staff members on Tuesday.

Members of the local Masonic Lodge prepared food donated by Brookshire’s and served the faculty breakfast at First Christian Church on Wednesday morning.

Volunteer parents provided a salad lunch to both campuses on Wednesday.

Teachers were given a chance to turn in their calculated guesses on the number of peanuts contained in the sealed glass jar at each campus.

“We’ve already had a few guesses on the number of peanuts,” said PTO president Ginny Ivy on Tuesday morning. “We’ll give out prizes to the top four winners at each campus. Since there isn’t school this Friday, we moved everything up a day and will declare the winners on Thursday.”

Gift baskets full of items donated by local merchants will be awarded to the four teachers at each school who come closest to guessing the actual count.

The PTO gave out several gifts to each of the staff members at AISD this week including a Mrs. Fields chocolate chip cookie, Starburst candies, lip balm, and an Albany Lions roll-up blanket.

Boys Ranch Dinner

Next week, Ben Richey Boys Ranch will host a dinner to express their thanks to local teachers.

All of the teachers, administrators, staff, school board members, and their families are invitied to the annual teacher appreciation meal, according to Albany campus director Mike Bean.

The meal, which will include pork tenderloin, salad, bread, green beans, and bread pudding for desert, will be served at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, at the local Boys Ranch campus.
