Entries for the 2021 homecoming parade set to roll through downtown Albany next Friday, Oct. 1 are be accepted until noon on Friday, Sept. 24, according to the high school office.

Any individual, organization, or class group that would like to be included in the parade should contact Ann Riley at the AHS principal’s office, 325-762-3974, to reserve a spot in the lineup.

Entrants should begin gathering at 4:00 p.m. next Friday in the parking lot in front of the Robert Nail Memorial stadium.

Originally, the parade was going to consist of just royalty nominees in automobiles, but it was expanded earlier this week to include class and organizational floats.

The Albany Ex-Students Association is planning to have a float for the 1960-61 football teams that won state titles, along with cheerleaders, twirlers, and band and pep squad members from those years.

Typically, the Ex-Students Association holds the “Big Homecoming” events on even-numbered years, but those plans were cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s event is combining to honor the 50-year classes celebrations for 1969, 1970, and 1971.

Floats associated with those honor classes or other classes such as 1981, 1991, 2001, etc. that are celebrating with a reunion are welcome to participate.
