Packets delivered early due to holiday

This week Moran Independent School District superintendent Danny Freeman made his weekly trip to deliver school packets to students in Cisco, Breckenridge, and Albany a day earlier than normal.

“We’ll deliver earlier this week, probably on Thursday, because this Friday is Good Friday,” said Freeman on Monday night. “Teachers have been working hard to get their packets ready in time.”

Freeman said that delivering the school items went well last week, with most parents able to meet him at the designated times to pick up their packets.

“We will continue to make academic materials and meals available for pick up and delivery,” he told parents. “Teachers will be available daily via email and in most cases by phone. Thank you for all you are doing to educate your children at home and all the efforts you’re making to keep your family healthy and safe.”

In an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Governor Greg Abbott closed all schools in Texas until May 4.

“The goal of everyone at this time should be protection of our loved ones,” said Freeman. “We love and cherish each of our students and we will do all we can do to help you during this time. If there is anything that we can provide during this extended closure, please let us know.”

The MISD office is open most weekday mornings from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, and sporadically in the afternoons. The office phone number is 325-945-3109.

The superintendent can be reached by email at dfreeman@moran.esc14.net or by calling his cell phone, 325-660-3244.

“Everyone please continue to shelter in place when directed, practice good hygiene (hand washing) and social distancing, and cover coughs and sneezes,” said Freeman. “It is our prayer that we all come back together in our little school building as soon as possible. God bless and keep safe!”

School Board

The MISD school board met for the regular March meeting last Monday, March 30.

“Two board members attended remotely and the other five were in the auditorium,” Freeman said. “Among other business items, we met with a windmill company that will start a project south of Moran, part of which will be in the MISD taxing district.”

RWE Renewables Americas LLC claims to be one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies, with around 3,500 employees. The company has applied for a value limitation agreement on property taxes.
