One Act Play (OAP) co-director Jenny Scott and 18 Albany High School students are preparing for their University Interscholastic League district competition next month.

The 2A District 8 OAP meet will be held in Stamford on Thursday, March 5.

The Albany thespians will be performing scenes from The 39 Steps adapted by Patrick Barlow from the 1915 novel by John Buchan and the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock.

“After performing a drama last year, several cast members expressed an interest in performing a comedy this year,” said Scott. “I chose this comedy in particular because I feel like it fits our cast members and gives us a good challenge.”

Scott said that practices are going well.

“We will be attending a clinic in Clyde on Feb. 12 to get feedback on what we can improve upon for the district UIL competition,” the director added. “This is equivalent to a scrimmage where an adjudicator will critique our performance.”

The 39 Steps follows the adventures of the hero as the death of a woman he was romantically involved with transforms his formerly boring life into one full of intrigue, spies, and a nation-wide manhunt.

Cast members are: Hannay – B.J. Morris, Annabella/Mr. Macqee – Tana Thompson, Clown 1/Pilot 2 – Brooks Neece, Clown 2/Pilot 1 – Bryce Asher, Mrs. Higgins/Compere – Ella Webb, Salesman 1/John McTyte/Sheriff/Mr. McGarrigle/Mr. Memory – William Webb, Salesman 2/Inspector/Mr. Dunwoody – Jackson Chapman, Policeman 1 – Taylor Scott, Policeman 2 – Carli Edgar, Pamela – Hannah Trail, Margaret – Cydney Nelson, Policeman 3 – Briley Tabor, Mrs. Jordan – Alayna Koemel, Professor/Radio Announcer – Bryson Davis, and Mrs. McGarrigle – Caitlan Lee.
