Although Albany High School’s One Act Play did not advance to the next round of competition, three members of the cast and crew won special awards at the district contest held last Wednesday in Haskell.

“The Love of Oranges” members who were recognized were Cydney Nelson – All-Star Cast, Chey’anne Weaver – Honorable Mention All-Star Cast, and Presley Green – Technical Crew Award.

OAP director Jenny Scott was very proud of the students and their performance at the district competition.

“The true purpose of acting in theater is to connect with your audience and entertain them through your play as you bring them into the story,” Scott said. “I feel that our students achieved that purpose as I heard the audience laugh and react during the performance.”

Scott said the show also got good feedback from the judge.

“Our critique judge stated that he was entertained by our play,” said Scott.

She added that this had been a great cast and crew.

“I have truly enjoyed working with this group of students,” said Scott. “I appreciate the time and effort they have put in to perform a great show.”

The cast and crew of the show included William Webb – Narrator, Brooks Neece – Silvio, Caitlan Lee – Pantalone, Jaheim Newton – Leandro, Melissa Olivarez – Princess Clarice, Chelsy Parsons – Brighella, Tyler Chapman – Prince Tartaglia, Jackson Chapman – Truffaldineo, Tana Thompson – Smeraldina, Hannah Trail – Fata Morgana, Sidney Bartee – a gate, Briley Tabor – a donkey and a mute country bumpkin, Chey’anne Weaver – Creonta, Ella Webb – Princess Ninetta, Cydney Nelson – Princess Nicoletta, Lizzie Chavez – Princess Linetta and Jaci Chapman – Musician.
