Native Americans will don brightly colored outfits inspired from those worn by their tribal ancestors and entertain visitors at the Old Jail Art Center this Saturday, June 30, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with music, dancing, and story-telling.

“Enrich your exploration of Texas history through a celebration of Native American cultures,” invited educational director Erin Whitmore. “Bring the whole family for this entertaining and educational experience!”

The event will take place in the Marshall R. Young Sculpture Courtyard at The Old Jail.

The OJAC performing arts programs are free and open to the public.

Focus Lecture

Visitors are invited to enjoy an afternoon of lively discussion and light refreshments at the Old Jail’s Fandangle Focus Lecture scheduled to take place from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Deborah Liles, who is a writer, editor, assistant professor at Tarleton State University, and senior lecturer at the University of North Texas, will be the speaker.

Women in Civil War Texas: Diversity and Dissidence in the Trans-Mississippi was co-edited by Liles and Angela Boswell and in 2017 was the winner of the Ottis Locke Best Book award and the Liz Carpenter Award for Research in the History of Women.

Liles’ presentation at the OJAC will examine women of all ethnicities and marital standings during a time that is traditionally not associated with Texas ranching, added OJAC developing and marketing coordinator Kenna Hogan.
