OJAC’s art camps start this Friday
The first of four free summer day camps offered by the Old Jail Art Center for school-aged children this year takes place tomorrow, Aug. 3.
The art camps offered this summer are Cultural Connections: Italy!, Things on Strings: Italy!, Cell Series: Teen Workshop, and Re-Create!
Early registration is recommended because participation numbers are limited in each of the camps.
Cultural Connections: Italy!
The music, food, art, and culture of Italy will be explored at Cultural Connections: Italy!
Registrations from up to 20 first through sixth graders will be accepted.
Participants need to bring a sack lunch to the event, which is scheduled to take place from 10:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3.
Puppetry Workshop
Typically the most popular of the summer art workshops, Things on Strings is limited to a maximum of 20 first through sixth graders.
Instructors at the OJAC will help each of the children create a one-of-a-kind kinetic puppet inspired by Cultural Connections: Italy!
Attendees need to participate from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on both days of the puppet workshop, which takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 7, and Wednesday, Aug. 8.
Cell Series:
Teen Workshop
On Friday, Aug. 10, up to 20 students entering eighth through 12th grades will use a variety of media to create artwork at Teen Workshop: Inspired by Helen Altman.
Altman is the OJAC’s current Cell Series artist.
The workshop runs from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., and lunch will be provided to the registered participants.
Re-Create!
Recycled and repurposed materials will be used to create art at the Re-Create! summer art workshop scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Registration is limited to a maximum of 20 fourth through seventh grade students.
Participants need to bring a brown bag lunch to the workshop.
