OJAC sign-up deadline set July 1

With a Friday, July 1 deadline coming up fast, parents need to get their 6-12 year olds signed up for the  Old Jail Art Center children’s summer workshops.

The traditional Cultural Connections Camp, which is centered on Greece this year, will be offered both on-site and virtually to start things off on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Two other workshops will be in-person only on Aug. 5 and Aug. 9, and then the popular puppet workshop will be online only on Aug. 10-12.

The registration deadline was set a month early because kits will need to be mailed to virtual participants in time to arrive before the camp dates. The kits will have supplies and materials for each day of instruction, as well as a password for participants to access that camp video.

Videos will be posted on the mornings of the virtual workshops at 10:00 a.m. and will include step-by-step instructions demonstrated by OJAC educators. After the videos are posted, online registrants can “camp” from home any time at their convenience.

The workshops are free to OJAC members, with a $15 cost for non-members.

Registration can be completed from the Old Jail’s homepage, theojac.org, over the phone by calling 325-762-2936, or in person at the museum front desk, according to the OJAC’s director of education Erin Whitmore.

The form can also be clipped out of the ad in the June 23 issue of The Albany News.

Workshops Schedule

Aug. 3 – Cultural Connections Camp: Greece

Campers, grades 1-6, will learn about the culture, music, food, and art of Greece.
