The Old Jail Art Center found unique ways to continue offering programming to a variety of patrons during the restrictions from COVID during 2020.

As the year came to a close, the board of trustees and staff reached out to OJAC patrons for contributions through the Annual Fund Appeal that would allow them to continue current offerings in 2021.

The Appeal is the OJAC’s single most important fundraiser to support operations and programs.

The Charles E. Jacobs Foundation matches contributions dollar for dollar up to $25,000.

OJAC Membership and Development Coordinator Susan Montgomery said the drive had gone well, and the goal had been met for the matching grant.

“We are very pleased with the Annual Appeal Fund,” Montgomery said. “We are so thankful for all the support from everyone during this uncertain time.”

Contributions enable the museum to provide a wide range of exhibitions, innovative education outreach, and numerous events and services comparable to larger institutions.

Current examples of programs offered by the OJAC include an “Art@Home” activity kit for children ages 4-12. Each week, families can pick up a free craft kit from the trunk located at the OJAC front gates.

“Tiny Tour Thursday” is hosted by OJAC staff volunteers every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. on the OJAC Facebook page. The three to five minute tour for teens and adults showcases the permanent collection or current exhibitions.

Patrons also can enjoy the #MuseumMixtape, a curated, collection-inspired playlist, posted on Monday on the OJAC Facebook and Instagram pages and on the OJAC Spotify channel.

Every Monday also brings a new post on the OJAC blog written by museum staff sharing behind the scenes projects, stories, ideas, and information.

Montgomery said donations to the Annual Fund will continue to be accepted for at least another week.

Donations can be mailed to 201 South 2nd Street, Albany, Texas, 76430, sent online by going to theojac.org home page and selecting “2020 Annual Fund,” or by calling 325-762-2269.

Patrons also are encouraged to contribute in person to see current offerings at the OJAC.
