OJAC patrons post ‘Hearts for the Arts’

Valentine’s Day will soon be history, but local patrons at the Old Jail Art Center still have time to celebrate their love for art this February with four events designed especially for them.

Hearts For The Arts

Visitors at the Old Jail Art Center this week can express their love for art by leaving a paper heart beside one of their favorite pieces on display at the museum in celebration of international Hearts for the Arts week, Feb. 12-16.

“Find your heart’s desire at the OJAC,” said developing and marketing coordinator Susan Montgomery. “Stop by the week of Feb. 12 and show your love. Receive a heart to place by your favorite art or artifact on exhibit, and enjoy the ‘lovely’ displays across the museum.”

Admission to the OJAC is always free to the public during normal museum hours.

Third Thursday

Next week, Third Thursday Studio offers participants a chance to create and fall in love with their own watercolor masterpiece.

“Bring a friend and your favorite bottle of wine and create a modern watercolor succulent still-life,” said education director Erin Whitmore. “It is designed to be a fun and laid-back workshop environment.”

Registration is $15 for OJAC members and $20 for non-members, and covers supplies as well as instruction from an experienced art teacher.

For more information or to register, call 325-762-2936. Registration is also available at the museum’s website, theojac.org.

Members’ Opening

Museum members are invited to the opening of the spring exhibitions at a reception on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Allied: The Tia and OJAC Collections and Matthew Bourbon: Waiting for Now will be on display from Feb. 23 through May 18.

Member Appreciation

“February is the month we want to express our appreciation to all of our members,” said Montgomery. “We are truly grateful for the integral role members play at the OJAC. Your membership allows us to remain one of the best museums in Texas and a resource for the entire region.”

OJAC members who visit the museum this February can pick up an appreciation gift and can enjoy 20 percent off any one item in the gift shop.
