OJAC honors its members

By Melinda L. Lucas

February is member appreciation month at the Old Jail Art Center, and several special events have been lined up in the next few weeks that should interest not only current members, but everyone who has an interest in promoting the arts.

The museum staff is showing its love for the OJAC membership all month long, and a gift is available for members who drop by in February.

Administrative assistant Tatum Green will hand out “cups full of goodies” at the front desk.

“The museum has thrived because of the members and supporters who have been steadfast and committed to the mission of this outstanding museum,” said membership and development coordinator Susan Montgomery. “Members are the heartbeat of the OJAC. I personally think of all the individuals who have sat on the board and served as docents, as well as staff members, directors, and all the ones that have given countless volunteer hours to keep the doors open and the lights on.”

Memberships are available starting at $12.50 for educators or $25 for individuals.

All membership levels include invitations to exhibition previews and special membership events, advanced notification of special programs and lectures, newsletters, and a discount on Museum Shop Merchandise.

Other Events

Coming up in the near future is the February Third Thursday Studio on Feb. 20.

The acrylic painting workshop will feature creation of a “stained glass” style tree by participants.

All supplies are provided for a fee of $15 for members and $20 for non-members.

Register online at the ojac.org or by calling 325-762-2936.

Also planned in February is the opening of three new exhibitions, including one with OJAC permanent collection pieces as the centerpiece, on Feb. 22 with a membership preview and reception.

A 40th anniversary celebration is scheduled next month on Saturday, March 28.

The major event will include entertainment by Santa Fe Piano Man Doug Montgomery and New York City violinist Elizabeth Young.

More information will be available in future issues.
