Officers re-elected, rule changes made at meeting

The Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Association met on Tuesday, April 13 to begin making plans for next year’s county livestock show.

The 2022 SCYLA show will be held Jan. 20-22, 2022, with a Pig Sale scheduled for Sept. 12, 2021.

Directors & Officers

Director Rocky Vinson, who is moving, was replaced on the board by Logan Neve.

Other current directors include Garry Edgar, Mike Folsom, Mike Parsons, J.W. Askew, Cody Leech, John Caldwell, and Jim Owen.

All four officers were re-elected to the same positions they held this year. 

Bronco Askew continues to serves as board president.

Austin Sherwood remains as vice president, Molly Cauble will stay as treasurer, and Tisha Wilkins will continue as secretary.

Show Superintendents

Show superintendents for 2022 are all familiar faces, with a few changes. 

Austin Sherwood will return as show superintendent for 2022.

An additional barn superintendent, Brandon Roysdon, was added and will assist Matt Duke with those duties. Mike Parsons and Kalico Leech continue to head sales. 

Sherwood is replacing Rocky Vinson as showmanship superintendent.

Debra Boyett is still in charge of the concession stand.

Chris Beard heads the rifle and the processed hog raffles, while  Cauble and Parsons are in charge of buckles.

J.W. Askew and Bucky Nail will head up the cattle division. 

Trent Tankersley, Jearl Boyett, Cody Leech, and Sherwood will supervise the swine. 

Morgan Smith and James Rodriguez are in charge of sheep and goats. 

Chickens and rabbits are under the direction of Matt and Shayna Duke.

2022 Changes

Amendments to the rules were suggested, and changes adopted for next year include dropping the number from five entries to three in a breed to constitute a separate class.

Another change is that the association will no longer host a Buyer Seller Banquet.

“The Top Hand award will be presented before the seniors are honored at the end of the stock show,” said Wilkins. “Scholarships will now be included at graduation with the other awards.”

Volunteers

In addition to the superintendents and officers, volunteers have signed up to cover other needs of the show. 

Dena Denton will continue to help with stock show pictures.

Bid numbers will be under the supervision of Gayala Askew and Heather Snyder.

Kalico Leech is in charge of the bidders’ books.

Mike Parsons, Garry Edgar, Cody Leech, and Chris Beard will oversee the pig sale.

Serving on the finance committee are Bronco Askew, Mike Parsons, Steve Waller, John Caldwell, Jamie Nail, Randall Palmore, and John Peterson.

Scholarship committee members are Bronco Askew, Austin Sherwood, Debra Boyett, Molly Cauble, and Kalico Leech.
