The Albany High School One Act Play earned fourth place out of seven district schools last Wednesday, March 8  to serve as alternate to the bi-district contest, and three members of the cast and crew received special recognition.

The group presented the comedy “Oz” for the judges at Haskell.

Two members of the cast received honorable mention All-Star Cast, including Landon Balliew as the Lion and Avery Everitt as the Scarcrow.

Presley Green, a member of the technical crew, received All-Star Crew.

“The kids did an amazing job,” director Chanel Hayner said. “They did a perfect job and had a lot of fun doing the play.”

The three plays picked to advance to the bi-district contest March 21 were Cisco, Stamford, and Haskell.

“We had so many positive comments, even from other directors who thought we should have advanced,” Hayner said. “There was just a lot stiffer competition this year.”

“Oz” was written by Don Zolidis as a take-off on the original “The Wizard of Oz.”

“It is a very funny play, and this group of kids had so much fun getting it ready,” Hayner said.

The cast included Robyn Trail – Beth, Jaci Chapman – Mother/Glinda the Good Witch, Ann Davis – Aunt Carol/The Witch, Adam Hill – Uncle Jason/Wizard of Oz, Marie Hufschmidt – The Guide/Jill, Ayana Molina – Hair/Quix, Leddie Leech – Wardrobe/Quax, Kaisley Bartee – Props, Cade Fairchild – Munchkin Mayor/Guard, Landon Balliew – Lion, Avery Everitt – Scarecrow, and Tyler Chapman – Tin Man. Alternate was Chloe Anderson.

The crew included Presley Green, Madi Parrott, Kolt Koemel, and Chloe Daugherty.

Schools in District 10-2A include Albany, Anson, Cisco, Hamlin, Haskell, Hawley, and Stamford.
