NSES, Jr. high UIL winners named

Several students and teams from Nancy Smith Elementary School and Albany Junior High placed at the district A+ Academics University Interscholastic League meets held during November and December. 

Due to COVID concerns, the competetion looked a little different this year. 

The writing portion of the competition was held in November and entries were submitted via email to be judged. 

The remaining academic contests took place locally with entries being videoed and submitted during the first part of December. 

UIL rules group second through fifth graders in the elementary division, and place sixth through eighth grade together in the middle school section. 

Elementary Results

Nancy Smith Elementary placed fourth in the district UIL contest with a total of 255.6 points.

Middle School Results

Albany sixth through eighth graders were fifth with a school total of 249.3 points.

Stamford (799.5) won the contest, followed by Haskell (537.8) in second. Cisco (506) came in third, followed by Anson (407) for fourth place. Albany  placed ahead of Hamlin (187.3) and Hawley (144).

The totals included points won at the junior high one-act play contest on Thursday, Nov. 12, where Albany placed fifth.

Results for those who placed first through sixth in the academic meets are listed below:

SECOND GRADE

THIRD GRADE 

Chess – 3rd place team, Paxton Slaughter, Artie Bell, Presley Rosales, 6. Paxton Slaughter 

Music Memory – 1st place team, Artie Bell, Emmett Agee, Willa Early, Kalison Oliver, Carly Kreitler, 3. Artie Bell, 5. Emmett Agee, 6. Willa Early.

Ready Writing – 2. Presley Rosales.

Oral Reading – 4. Trevor Bellah. 

Spelling – 2nd place team, Corrie Ceder, Luke Smith, Presley Rosales, 2. Corrie Ceder. 

FOURTH GRADE 

Art – 3rd place team, Haiden Neill, Hailey Gleitz, Avery Gleitz, Trevor Bellah, Abby McBee.
