Albany News publisher Donnie Lucas announced this week that there will not be an edition published on Dec. 29 during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

“We’ve decided to again take that week off and be able to enjoy our family more during the holidays,” said Lucas.

There have only been a few times in 46 years of Lucas ownership that there hasn’t been a weekly paper.

“We wanted everyone to know a few weeks ahead of time so that any notices or ads can be accommodated,” Lucas said, “and it has been documented with the post office as a requirement of our second class mailing permit.”

The News office will be open on Monday through Thursday, Dec. 26-29 of that week. The office is always closed on Fridays, so it will be closed Dec. 30 as usual.

Lucas also mentioned that the deadline for the following week will not be adjusted. Because New Year’s Day falls on Sunday, there will not have to be an early deadline for the first edition of the 2023 year on Jan. 5, and the normal Tuesday noon deadline will apply.
