No paper to be printed Dec. 30

Albany News publisher Donnie Lucas announced this week that there will not be an edition published on Dec. 30 during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

“We’ve decided to take that week off and be able to enjoy our family more during the holidays,” said Lucas. 

There have only been a few times in 45 years of Lucas ownership that there hasn’t been a weekly paper.

“We wanted everyone to know a few weeks ahead of time so that any notices or ads can be accommodated,” Lucas said, “and it has been documented with the post office as a requirement of our second class mailing permit.”

The News office will be open on Monday through Thursday, Dec. 27-30 of that week. The office is always closed on Fridays, so it will be closed all day on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31.

Lucas also mentioned that the deadline for the following week will not be adjusted. Because Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on Saturday, there do not have to be any early deadlines this year.

The normal Tuesday noon deadline will apply both weeks.
