No paper to be printed Dec. 26
Albany News publisher Donnie Lucas announced this week that there will not be an edition published during the week of Christmas on Thursday, Dec. 26.
“We’ve decided to take that week off and be able to enjoy our family more during the holidays,” said Lucas. “And since Christmas Day falls on Wednesday, it makes it difficult to get the paper and web edition finished and still be able to get everything done that we need to do.”
This is only the second time in 43 years of Lucas ownership that there hasn’t been a weekly paper.
“We wanted everyone to know a few weeks ahead of time so that any notices or ads can be accommodated,” Lucas said.
The News office will be open on Monday, Dec. 23 and on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 26-27 of that week. The office will close all day on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
Lucas also mentioned that the deadline for the following week will be moved back a full day because of New Year’s Day.
The normal Tuesday noon deadline will change to Monday, Dec. 30 in order to get that edition printed and mailed at the regular time.
The web edition will go live on Wednesday evening, Jan. 1 as usual, and local papers will be delivered on Thursday morning, Jan. 2.
The News office will close that week only for Wednesday, Jan. 1.
