No new candidates file this week

With about two weeks remaining in the filing period for local May 6 elections, a few incumbents have signed up for another term but no challengers have signed up yet.

As of Tuesday’s press deadline, no one had filed  since those reported in the Jan. 26th edition.

Board member posts and council positions are subject to election by the public for both Albany and Moran school boards and city councils, along with the Shackelford County Hospital District and the Fort Griffin SUD.

Candidates have until Friday, Feb. 17 to have their names placed on the ballots for any of the local elections.

Albany School Board

All three incumbents on the Albany ISD board have filed for another three-year term, including Robert Montgomery for Place 1, Ginny Ivy for Place 2, and Bo Brown, who was recently appointed to the unexpired Place 3 seat.

Applications to file for the election are available in the superintendent’s office at the secondary campus.

Albany City Council

Mayor Susan Montgomery and incumbent council members Lynsi Musselman and Don Taggart are the only filees so far.

Council members are selected by the top three candidates who receive the most votes in the at-large election.

Hospital Board

The Shackelford County Hospital District has three two-year terms expiring, including Leslie Belcher, Jo Ann Estridge, and Mike Folsom. Kraymer Harbold was appointed this week to a vacant seat, but he must file if he wishes to seek a full or partial term.

Petitions, which must be signed by at least 10 registered county voters, are available at the district’s office in the EMS building. Contact Regina Whitt for more information at 325-762-3313.

Moran School Board

No one had filed for either of the two three-year terms on the Moran ISD board ending this spring, currently held by Gary Roan and James Shelton.

Candidates can fill in superintendent’s office during regular school hours. Call 325-945-3101 for more information.

Moran City Council

Moran city council seats held by Christal Herrell, Tyler Kinman, and Gene Thompkins, as well as the one-year unexpired term of mayor Tyler George, are all subject to reelection.

Fort Griffin SUD

Ben Hale, Sug Roller, and Robert Montgomery are the Fort Griffin SUD board members whose three-year terms expire this spring.
