Newstand copies to be delivered later

Albany News

By Melinda L. Lucas

Starting with this issue, The Albany News print version will not be on newsstands until early Thursday morning.

The paper is now being printed in Lubbock as a result of decisions made by the parent company of the Abilene Reporter-News.

The Abilene press was shut down last week, and after researching several printing plants in the area, the News staff decided to go back with the Lubbock firm that produced the paper for several months in late 2018 and early 2019 when the Reporter-News building was damaged by a fire.

“We upload the pages electronically on Wednesday afternoon,” said News publisher Donnie Lucas, “but the paper will not be delivered back to us until the middle of the night.”

Rather than being distributed to newsstands on Wednesday nights, the paper will be taken to local stores early on Thursday mornings, as it used to be until the last year or so.

Mail and online subscribers should not see any difference in delivery time, said Lucas.
