The Albany News was presented with the Outstanding Publication Award for its efforts to promote agriculture science education by the Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas during the association’s Professional Development Conference.

The conference was held Monday-Thursday, July 24-28 in Dallas.

Albany High School agriculture teacher Chris Beard, who submitted the nomination to the ATAT, accepted the award on behalf of the publication on Tuesday, July 25 during the Area IV meeting.

“I sent in a little writeup about what The Albany News does for the school and for FFA,” Beard said. “I sent it to the district, area, and state levels, and The Albany News won state recognition.”

The Albany News was one of several agriculture supporters recognized for service and commitment to the agricultural science and technical field.

“I just appreciate the Lucases and Sam Waller for their efforts in getting FFA in the newspaper,” Beard said. “That lets people know what’s going on with the FFA program at the school. I appreciate the hard work and dedication of The Albany News to publicize the Albany FFA chapter in the newspaper and keep the readers informed of what we’re doing as a group.”

The Albany FFA chapter wrapped up its year in mid-July at the 95th annual Texas FFA state convention with chapter officers Leddie Leech, Gracie Price, Robyn Trail, Kenzie Neve, and Callan Edgar representing Albany.

The chapter received the National Chapter Superior Award and the Golden Horizon Award.

Leech, Price, and Trail received the Lone Star FFA Degree, while the chapter received the National Chapter Superior Award and the Golden Horizon Award.
