Albany News

By Melinda L. Lucas

Starting next week on June 12, The Albany News will be closed for business on Fridays.

According to publisher Donnie Lucas, the decision to only be open four days a week was made a little earlier in the spring.

“Since we no longer have a lot of office supply business, and the laundry service only delivers on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we don’t have that much foot traffic on Fridays any more,” said Lucas.

Lucas added that the Friday closure is also an effort to cut costs in view of the economic impact of the coronavirus impact.

“Our advertising revenue is about half of what it was this time last year,” said the publisher. “We’ve got to reduce expenses where we can in order to survive.”

Hours at the News office will be Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., starting Friday, June 12.
