By Sandy Morris
The Moran ISD board of trustees recently approved the hiring of Dr. John Denson as the new superintendent to replace Danny Freeman who is retiring at the end of June.
Dr. Denson comes to MISD from Union Hill ISD in Gilmer, Texas and said he is glad to return to West Texas.
“I feel like I’m coming back home,” said Denson. “I went to junior college at Weatherford and earned my bachelor’s degree at Tarleton.”
The new superintendent attended Sul Ross University for his master’s degree and earned another master’s and his doctorate of education from Stephen F. Austin State University.
Denson said he has friends in the area and generally enjoys the people and the culture of the community.
Freeman will help Denson with the transition into his new position during the month of June before enjoying his retirement.
“I’ll tend to my cows, and I’ve got some construction projects to do,” Freeman said. “I’m sure my wife, Prairie, will also have a list of chores for me to tackle.”
