New servers needed for clinic

Albany News

Shackelford County Hospital District directors discussed the replacement of aging servers at the clinic, but opted to wait another month so they could hear some options from the district’s IT consultant.

At the board’s Dec. 17 session, administrator Jera Fairley presented a bid from Tolar for two refurbished servers to replace the current eight-year-old units at a cost of $17,073, but Janna Ledbetter asked for the cost of new equipment.

A Tolar representative will attend the January meeting to answer questions.

Fairley stated that the existing servers are failing and also won’t allow the installation of new e-MD Solution Series 9.0 software.

“I’m not questioning the need, just whether we might be better off to invest in brand new servers,” said Ledbetter.

Fairley said that there is $10,000 budgeted for the equipment, but an adjustment will be needed for additional funds.

EMS Report

EMS director Mary Quintero reported that she is working on adjusted bids for the proposed new ambulance and will have them ready to present at the January meeting.

She also said that Colby Herron, whose education is being subsidized by the district, has passed his EMT-B test and will be placed in the EMS work rotation soon, and will continue working on more advanced certifications.

Former Albany resident Wanda Skiles is also coming to work part time as an EMT-Intermediate, Quintero said.
