New band uniforms for the Ragin’ Red Band arrived this week, continuing an effort to overhaul the group’s sound and look with new or refurbished instruments in order to increase participation in the program.

A total of 75 uniforms were being unboxed on Tuesday, in preparation to be debuted on Friday, Sept. 24 at the Albany vs. Anson football game.

The new suits have a top that is mostly red and white with the Albany Lion logo, along with gray pants.

“We started by ordering 75 uniforms,” director Will Vaughan said. “ We are projecting that will be enough to cover up to three years, with a plan to order more when necessary.”

The band put about 24 players on the field last year during Vaughan’s first year in Albany. This season there are just under 40 players on the field.

The uniforms were ordered from Fruhauf Uniforms and paid for by a gift to the school’s foundation fund by an anonymous donor.

The band earned a Division 2 rating at marching contest last year, along with a pair of Division I ratings at concert and sightreading in the spring.

Vaughan is assisted by his wife, Danna Vaughan.
