Albany FFA member Kenzie Neve ended 2021 and got the 2022 stock show season off to a strong start with her placings at two major national shows.

Neve closed out 2021 by finishing second in Class 1 All Other Cross Steers at the Arizona National Livestock Show held Dec. 27-31 in Phoenix. She also won Champion Intermediate Cattle Showman at the Arizona show.

Neve followed that up with second place in Class 3 Market Steer at the National Western Livestock Show held Jan. 19-22 in Denver. In addition to making the premium sale in Colorado, she won Reserve Champion Intermediate Steer Showman.

“This is the first time we’ve ever gone to the national shows that are out of state,” Leslie Neve, Kenzie’s mother, said. “We usually show shorthorns, but this is the first year she’s entered crosses, and she’s had a pretty good year with them.”

Neve is part of a large contingent of Albany FFA members showing at major shows in Fort Worth, San Antonio, San Angelo, Houston, and Austin. She was one of four local students with steers in this week’s Fort Worth stock show.

Albany has a total of 26 entries at Fort Worth with nine gilts shown Jan. 26-30 and 13 barrows being exhibited this week.
