National Honor Society to induct 16

The Albany Chapter of the National Honor Society will induct 16 new members this Sunday.

A recognition ceremony for the new members will be held on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 3:00 p.m. at the Albany High School auditorium.

A reception in the --school library for honor society members and their families and guests will follow the ceremony.

AISD students chosen to be honored with induction into the National Honor Society this year are Sidney Bartee, Blanton Belcher, Jackson Chapman, Landree Connally, Carli Edgar, Torie Fuentes, Morgan Garcia, and Elia Hebel.

Also selected to be inducted are honorees Allison Hill, Amber Leverton, Cydney Nelson, Paige Picquet, Hannah Snyder, Tana Thompson, Hannah Trail, and William Webb.

Current officers of the Albany NHS will be conducting the induction ceremony.

Officers are president Addison Asher, vice president Blaine Kayga, secretary Gracie LeMay, reporter Conner Clark, and treasurer Julia Bowman. 

Additional current NHS members include Max Balliew, Tyler Beard, Seth Hale, Alayna Koemel, Aubrey Moon, Jaleigh Morales, Taylor Scott, Brayden Sullivan, Ben West, Alyssa Zuniga, and Ivie Zuniga.

Jenny Scott and Michaela Bradford sponsor the local chapter of the NHS. 

Invitation into the National Honor Society requires students to display scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Members must earn six hours of service per semester and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Leadership experience is required and can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.

Students must demonstrate high standards of honesty and reliability, show courtesy, concern, and respect for others, be cooperative, and maintain a clean disciplinary record.

Students who meet the scholarship requirement have an opportunity to complete a form detailing their accomplishments in and commitment to service, leadership, and character.

NHS members are expected to volunteer in their community.
