While nasty weather and COVID cancelled the Albany Chamber of Commerce’s annual Parade of Lights, shoppers were still able to knock out some holiday shopping and earn tickets to win Albany Bucks.

Originally, the drawing for Albany Bucks was set for Saturday afternoon starting at 3:30 p.m.

After the parade was cancelled, Chamber director Mary Beth Jones announced that shoppers would have a few more days to earn tickets with boxes picked up on Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m.

Jones, surrounded by several hopeful winners, gathered at Vintage Vanilla for the Albany Bucks drawing for at 11:00 a.m. that morning.

For the first time, because of the need to social distance and other safety precautions, winners were not required to be present.

A total of $1,500 in Albany Bucks was awarded to local and out-of-town shoppers.

“The Albany Chamber of Commerce and local merchants want to thank everyone who participated in Albany Bucks,” said Jones. “We are blown away by all the people who came out and supported our stores.”

A total of ten $50 Albany Bucks certificates were given away. Winners include Melinda Lucas (2), Lucy Carter (2), Lisa Trubenback, Ginger Ditt-mar, Prissy Harvick, Linda Isbell, Tacy Ellis, and M.E. Flow.

Winners of the $100 Albany Bucks certificates were Debbie Graham, Lisa Trubenback, Maxie Jackson, Christy Tucker, Kirstin Hilliard, Malarie Sutton, Marsha Elliott, Michelle Helle, Kim Neece, and Tacy Ellis.

All winners are being contacted by phone and can either pick up their Albany Bucks or have them mailed.

The Bucks will be in $10 increments and no change will be given, so if a winner spends $28 and presents three Albany Bucks for a total of $30, no change will be given.

All Albany Bucks will have the Fandangle seal imprinted on each one in order to be valid.

Bucks are valid at any participating 2020 Chamber merchant or local restaurant through March 1, 2021.

Local stores accepting Albany Bucks include Albany Hardware, Vintage Vanilla/Erline’s, Sassifrass, Rustic Charm, Mary B’s Mean Tees, Ice House, Blanton Caldwell, Southern Comfort, Nostalgia, Buds for You, Neighbors Lawn, Beehive, Albany Wellness and Provisions, Fringe Salons (Amber Boland), EZ Feed and Supply, Stiche and Niche, Albany News (No dry cleaning or UPS), Albany Food Mart (food or drinks only; no gas or tobacco) and Prairie Star (food or drinks only; no gas or tobacco).

In other holiday Chamber news, memorial ornaments are still available at the Chamber for $5 each and homes can still be entered in the outside decorating contest.

To purchase an ornament or enter a home in the contest, contact Jones at the Chamber at 325-762-2525.
