Moran senior Emily Murk, who was recently named Outstanding Performer at the District 13-1A One Act Play contest has committed to Cisco College for theater.

“Emily is our very first student to commit for theater for any school,” Moran teacher Bryce Hughes said.

Murk played the role of Jo March in Moran’s OAP production of “Little Women.”

“That exposure of being on stage and acting will help her a whole lot in the future,” Hughes said. “It helps us solidify our program and shows kids coming up what they can accomplish.
It shows people around us that we’ve got some talent over here.”

Moran will be the first school to compete in the bi-district OAP contest, taking the stage at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 20 at Clyde High School.

Special Guest

Moran kindergarten and first grade students were exposed to a wider world last week with a visitor from halfway around the globe.

Albany native Mary Waller Stacey, who now lives at Quairading, Western Australia, read the book “The Wild-Eyed Wombat of Wallaby Flats” to the group.

The children’s story was written by Stacey’s brother for her son, Jake, for his sixth birthday.

In addition to hearing the story, students were shown photographs of Australian animals such as kangaroos and emus, and they were shown Quairading’s location on a globe.
