More than 20 car burglaries have been reported in several Albany neighborhoods, apparently all occurring around midnight on Thursday, Aug. 4 and continuing until daybreak on Friday morning, according to Shackelford County deputy Jason Price, who is investigating along with city police chief Mike House.

One surveillance camera shows what appears to be multiple suspects, and other videos are being reviewed, Price said.

The thieves took valuables from vehicles that included cash, guns, knives, and laptops. Price said that all the vehicles were believed to be unlocked.

Officers asked local citizens to review any camera footage from that night and report anything, however small, that seems suspicious, even unfamiliar cars driving by at odd hours.

“If you believe someone was in your car, even if nothing was taken, please report it,” said Price. “That kind of information will help us build a timeline.”

The deputy also mentioned that several people had recently reported being followed by a car in the early morning hours.

“If  you’re out walking and see something or someone that makes you uncomfortable, report it,” he said. “And please, lock your vehicles.”
