Moran teams to host Friday games

The Moran Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs basketball teams both went 2-1 last weekend at the Lueders-Avoca tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs hosted Rotan on Tuesday while the boys played at Mullin. Results will be reported next week.
Moran wraps up play before the holiday break on Friday with a pair of home games. The girls play Knox City at 6:00 p.m. with the boys taking on Ranger at 7:30 p.m.
Both teams will play in the Gordon tournament Dec. 28-29.
Boys Games
The Bulldogs dropped their first game of the tourney 47-31 to Trent, but bounced back to beat the Jayton JV 38-36 in overtime and then won a rematch with Trent 48-33.
In the first game against Trent, Moran was unable to overcome a slow start, trailing 9-1 after one quarter and 23-7 at halftime. The Bulldogs heated up in the fourth quarter, scoring 20 points.
Arren Hawley led Moran with 15 points and Caleb York added 11. Connor Hail and Riley Noble each scored two points, and Ellis Hise had one.
Against Jayton, Hawley scored 18 points, including the only basket of overtime in a back-and-forth game.
Moran led 6-4 after one quarter, but Jayton went in front 18-15 at halftime and led 28-26 after three before the Bulldogs forced the extra period.
York had eight points for Moran with Hail, Cotten Campbell, and Hise each scoring four.
In the rematch with Trent, Hawley went off for 32 points, 13 in the first quarter, as the Bulldogs built a 22-6 lead. The Gorillas closed the gap to 30-19 at halftime, but Moran maintained the lead through the second half.
Noble added seven points for Moran with Hail scoring four, York three, and Hise two.
Girls Results
Playing for the first time since losing five games at the Breckenridge tournament, the Lady Bulldogs opened with a 58-26 victory over Trent and beat host Lueders-Avoca 63-26 before falling 37-33 to the Stamford JV.
Against Trent, Hannah Noble and Johnnie Hise each scored 20 points with Emily Murk adding 10. Hannah Rogers scored six points, and Harmony Slaughter had two.
Moran turned a 14-7 first quarter lead into a 29-12 halftime edge, then pushed the margin to 50-16 in the third quarter.
Moran again had three double-figure scorers against Lueders-Avoca with Noble putting up 23 points, Hise 17, and Rogers 11. Murk finished with six points with Alli Scott scoring four and Samantha Hinkle two.
Moran led 30-23 at halftime before shutting out Lueders-Avoca in the third quarter.
Against Stamford, the Lady Bulldogs fell behind 17-8 at halftime before closing the gap to 20-17 in the third quarter. The scoring picked up in the fourth, but Stamford was able to hold on.
Murk led Moran with eight points, and Rogers added seven. Noble had five points, Scott and Slaughter four each, Hise three, and Julianna Cottle two.
Junior High
The Moran junior high teams played their last games before the holiday break Monday at Rising Star. For the boys team, it was the first game of the season after enough players became eligible.
In the girls game, Moran lost 19-8. Ashlyn Crawford scored five points with Kacenda Thompkins scoring two and Cassandra Mendez one.
In the boys game, Moran lost 51-4. Landon Moreno scored the Bulldogs’ points.
The junior high teams resume play Jan. 10 at May.
