Moran students witnessed the total solar eclipse from three vantage points Monday, April 8.

A group of 68 students from fourth through 12th grades and eight faculty members traveled to San Saba, which was in the zone of totality. Third graders and younger watched from the Moran campus.

Four members of Moran’s track team watched in May, where they were competing in the area track meet. The meet schedule was arranged so the eclipse occurred during the lunch break.

“It was a nice drive to San Saba,” Moran superintendent Dr.JohnDenson said. “We got to see the bluebonnets on the way driving through the Hill Country.”

Densonsaidbeinginthe zone of totality was a oncein- a-lifetime experience for his students.

“When it reached totality and you could see the ring around the sun, night lights came on and you could actually see stars in the sky,” he said. “I had several students ask me Tuesday at school when they can see the next one.”

Denson said the eclipse provided educators opportunities in a wide range of subjects.

“When I was planning the trip, I had a long list of things to check off,” he said.

That included applications in mathematics and science classes, composing essays in English on the topic, and discussing the historical significance in history classes.

“All the teachers said yes,” Denson said. “All the classes have been geared around this for a couple of weeks now.”
