Moran students have ‘power’ lunch

Officers of the Moran FFA chapter took part in a leadership lunch meeting Tuesday, June 21, with members of the Fort Worth Stock Show Syndicate.
The lunch meeting, which was sponsored by J.C. Johnson and the Dorset Johnson LLP Attorneys in Fort Worth, was held at the Fort Worth Club and in a room that has hosted U.S. presidents and Texas governors.
Syndicate members Joe Monteleone, Doug Cassidy, Christian Schroder, Don Marable, and J. C. Johnson advised Moran FFA officers on leadership, work ethic, scholarship opportunities, and employment, in addition to providing life advice, Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said.
“This was about expanding horizons, creating contacts and opportunities for our students,” Denson said. “Some Moran students have traveled, and some haven’t been off that hill. This is going to help grow our FFA chapter.”
Moran FFA officers for the 2022-2023 school year are Alayna Baker, president; Allen Hebel, vice president; Daphani Crews, secretary; Ellis Hise, treasurer; Vivalee Green, reporter; Cotten Campbell, sentinel; Kacenda Thompkins, student advisor; and Jayla Bussell, historian.
Denson said the lunch came about through his relationship with Johnson, a former classmate at Tarleton State University.
“His dad was one of my ag teachers at Tarleton,” Denson said. “That showed the kids how these connections work out later on in life. You never know who you’re going to run into.”
Denson said the FFA officers also used the three-day retreat to revise the chapter’s constitution and bylaws.
“They hadn’t been updated in a very long time,” he said. “Some of the stuff was in there before girls were allowed in FFA.”
