Moran students compete in UIL
By Sam Waller
Moran ISD resumed classes this week after taking last week off for Thanksgiving break.
“We just had to hit the ground running because we’ve got so much stuff going on,” principal Jo Hise said.
Among the first of those events was the elementary and junior high UIL district academic contests held Wednesday, Nov. 30, and Thursday, Dec. 1, at Cross Plains. Six fourth and fifth graders and six junior high students competed in speaking events on Wednesday. The second day of the contest saw 22 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders and 12 junior high students compete in other academic events.
Coming up next week, Moran will conduct End of Course exams, and a mobile dairy unit will visit the campus on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
PTO Holiday Meal
The Moran PTO will hold its annual Holiday Meal at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 at Moran Event Center.
“That’s free to the community,” Hise said. “We ask that people bring a side dish and/or a dessert. We’ve got the ham, turkey, dressing, and rolls.”

Christmas Program
Moran will hold its Christmas program at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Moran Event Center.
The program will be presented by Pre-K through fifth grade students. Light refreshments will be served.
Angel/Teacher Trees
Moran is conducting its Angel Tree and Teacher Tree programs in December.
Angel Tree serves Pre-K through fifth grade in a manner similar to Believe Tree for Teens conducted by the Albany Ministerial Alliance.
“People in the community can come pick up an Angel,” Hise said. “On the list, we have clothing sizes, favorite books, and a toy the children would want. We’re supposed to issue those Monday, Dec. 19.”
Teacher Tree is geared toward helping faculty members be properly equipped.
“For Teacher Tree, teachers have made lists of six items they would like for their classroom,” Hise said. “People can adopt a teacher, too, and provide items to help with instruction.”
