Four Moran seventh grade FFA students competed in Agricultural Product Identification on Monday at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, placing fifth among FFA teams.

Team members are Cutter Campbell, Jaelynn Cottle, Ashlyn Crawford and Landon Moreno.

Moran FFA sponsor Minnie Denson said the competition tested students’ ability to identify a variety of agricultural products as well as their knowledge of the products.

“It can be fruits, vegetables, cuts of meat, seafood items and that kind of thing,” she said. “They’d have to identify that this is a shrimp and answer a question about shrimp. Or identify that this is a cantaloupe and answer a question about what is the best humidity level to store cantaloupe.”

On Oct. 4, two high school livestock judging teams competed at the fair. Participants were Ellis Hise, Bailey Schafer, Cotten Campbell, Riley Noble, Daphani Crews, Samantha Hinkle, Alyssa Allred, and Keagan Kilcrease.

Next week, Moran will take three judging teams to the Heart of Texas Fair in Waco.

Keagan Kilcrease reached the semifinals Saturday at the Texas High School Horseshoe Championship in Weatherford.

"We won a lot of prizes,” Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said. “We were also the only school that had female students competing.”
