Moran High School had almost 100 percent turnout Friday, May 5 for its prom at the Moran events center.

Seniors Alyssa Allred and Tyler Waddell were crowned prom queen and king.

Moran principal Jo Hise said the event had about 50 attendees, more than Moran’s high school enrollment.

“I think the majority of the high school showed up,” she said. “We did have some guests from out of the district.”

Makeup Day

Friday, May 12 will be a class day for all students as the district makes up another day lost to weather in February.

Hise said the day will operate under a normal schedule.

Students were also required to attend school on Friday, April 14.

Physicals

At 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 11 (today), Moran will conduct physical exams for its athletic program for the 2023-24 school year. All students from seventh grade up who plan to participate in any sport must have an exam before being allowed to participate.

“Paperwork has been sent home to be filled out and returned,” Hise said.

Field Trips

Moran students are participating in a number of field trips as the school year winds down.

The first was a Friday-Tuesday, April 28-May 2 trip to San Marcos by freshman biology and junior aquatic science classes taught by Matthew Hise. This was the second year for the trip, which included an aquatic biology field day at Texas State University.

On Tuesday, May 9, students from seventh and eighth grades joined juniors and seniors in visiting the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens.

“Those classes take ag plant science classes,” Jo Hise said. “There was an educational component to that.”

On Tuesday, May 16,
Pre-K through third grade students will visit the Abilene Zoo.

On Wednesday, May 17, the freshman class will attend a performance of “To Kill a Mockingbird” at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth.

On Thursday, May 18, fourth, fifth, and sixth grades will visit the Fort Worth Museum of Natural History.

Baccalaureate

Baccalaureate ceremonies for the Class of 2023 will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 21 at First Baptist Church in Moran.
