Moran’s One Act Play qualified for bi-district competition Monday, Feb. 27 with its performance of “Little Women” at the District 13-1A contest at Abilene Wylie High School.

The bi-district competition, which will include six schools from Districts 13 and 14, is scheduled for Monday, March 20 at McMurry University in Abilene.

Moran’s specific placing at the district contest was not announced, just that it was among the three advancing schools.

“We had a panel of judges, and the head judge placed us second on his scoring card, which is incredible,” Moran teacher Bryce Hughes, who served as director, said. “Overall, they just announced that we advanced. Places don’t matter until we get to state.”

Emily Murk was named Outstanding Performer for her portrayal of Jo March.

“I had a feeling we would advance when they announced Emily as one of the outstanding performers,” Hughes said.

Ellis Hise, who played Laurie Laurence, was named to the all-star cast. Chase Murk received honorable mention on the all-star cast for his role as John Brooke.

Kacenda Thompkins was named to the all-star crew for her work as a lighting technician.

Courtly Behavior

Moran FFA students have been engaged in renovations to the school’s tennis courts, erecting new wind screens and rebuilding part of the backboard used for practice.

Superintendent Dr. John Denson said the district purchased the wind screen, emblazoned with “Go Bulldogs,” and FFA members provided the labor.

“The students are also working on the backboard,” Denson said. “They took down some of the plywood that was warping and rotting and put up new plywood. They’re going to paint that next.”

Moran FFA students depart Thursday, March 2 (today) to compete in contests at the Houston Livestock Show.
