The Moran FFA meat judging team recently finished 10th  at a contest  at Texas Tech.

Moran had the best finish among teams from the Big Country District and was second among Area IV teams behind Seymour.

Team members were Cotten Campbell, Allen Hebel, Ellis Hise, Johnnie Hise and Hannah Rogers.

“This was the first contest of the year,” Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said. “This gets us ready for next spring when the team will be going to Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and San Angelo stock shows, along with contests at all the Leadership Development Events that have this event, like Tarleton, Tech, West Texas A&M, and Clarendon College.”

The competition was held Nov. 6 at Texas Tech’s Gordon W. Davis Meat Science Laboratory in Lubbock.

Back To School

Classes at Moran ISD will resume Monday after a weeklong Thanksgiving break.

“We’ll get back to work and learn all we can between now and Christmas,” Denson said.

Moran junior high students will be preparing for UIL academic contests coming up in December.

Eighth grader Chase Murk was eighth in Greenhand and Junior Creed Speaking on Monday at the Area IV contest, earning a top 10 banner for the school. Murk advanced by winning last week’s Big Country District competition.

“He’s competing on the high school level,” Denson said. “Next year, he’ll compete in Senior Creed Speaking.”

Also at last week’s district competition, Moran finished third in sweepstakes based on its overall performance.

“You get points for every placing,” Denson said. “When the graph’s all filled out, whoever has the most points wins sweepstakes.”
