Moran will have a school holiday on Friday, Jan. 21, so students may participate in the county livestock show.

It will be the second school holiday of the week, following Martin Luther King Day on Monday, Jan. 17.

The next school holiday will be Presidents Day on Feb. 21.

Tractor Contest

Moran High School student Caleb York participated in a tractor tech competition Saturday at Katy despite the rest of the Moran team dropping out because of illness, which also caused a boys basketball game to be rescheduled.

“It was good experience for Caleb,” Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said. “The event organizers teamed him up with some other people that didn’t have a full team.”

The event called for participants to diagnose and repair mechanical problems on a tractor.

“They had 10 identical tractors and the same five things were wrong with each tractor,” Denson said. “The students were issued a work order just like if you took your vehicle to a shop.”

Once a team completed repairs to its tractor, they then had to drive it across the finish line to earn bonus points.

“They also got points for doing things safely, like getting on and off the tractor like you’re supposed to,” Denson said.
