Moran ISD experiences ‘great start’

The first week of class at the Moran Independent School District went very well, according to superintendent Danny Freeman.

“It was phenomenal,” said Freeman. “We had a great start! I’ve been doing this thing a long time now, and it was the best start to a school year that I have seen.”

According to Freeman, the new teachers fit right in with the existing staff, and the students were excited to see each other, the staff, and the improvements on the campus.

“The students are having to adjust to the new security system,” Freeman said. “If they are late now, they are locked out, and also, they can’t just roam around the campus between classes.”

Other improvements in the campus include a remodeled cafeteria and new carpet in the library and auditorium.

Although a couple of students registered for school last week, numbers remained about the same overall.

“We picked up one or two students,” Freeman said. “But we have lost one, so I think we will end up around 110 or 111. The first couple of weeks of the school year, the registration numbers typically fluctuate up and down a little.”

Fall Holidays

Moran students and staff were off on Monday for the Labor Day holiday.

The next scheduled break for MISD will be for Thanksgiving, and Moran students will be off the entire week, Nov. 19-23, while teachers have a comp day scheduled Monday, Nov. 19, before their holiday.

Students will again get a one-day jump on teachers for Christmas break, with a student holiday and teacher comp day on Friday, Dec. 21, before the entire campus closes for two weeks.
