Moran is celebrating homecoming this week with four days of activities leading up to the homecoming game against Mullin on Friday, Sept. 16.

“We’ve had dress-up days all this week,” principal Jo Hise said. “We had Meme Monday, Throwback Tuesday, Jersey Wednesday, and Spirit Day for Thursday.”

She added that the cheerleaders are organizing a homecoming dance Friday night following the game.

The homecoming pep rally is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 (today).

Moran graduate Jeff Martin will sing the national anthem before Friday’s game.

Nominees for homecoming queen are Alyssa Allred, Alayna Baker, Daphani Crews, Chloe Hendricks, Samantha Hinkle, Emily Murk, and Alli Scott. King nominees are Memphis McGough and Tyler Waddell.

The homecoming court will include Page Chase Murk and Lady in Waiting Jayla Bussell (freshman class), Duke Ellis Hise and Duchess Bailey Schafer (sophomore class, and Prince Connor Hail and Princess Vivi Green (junior class).

Fair Time

Moran elementary students took a field trip to the West Texas Fair and Rodeo on Monday, Sept. 12.

More than 40 students from kindergarten through sixth grade were accompanied by the elementary faculty and six members of the National Honor Society.

“The kids probably would have had a better experience on a Saturday because of more exhibitors showing, but it was an opportunity for them to see it when it was less crowded,” superintendent Dr. John Denson said. “They basically had the fairgrounds to themselves Monday. They got to see the exhibits and the petting zoo.”

Denson said a pair of rabbits from the petting zoo were brought back to serve as class pets for the students.

Denson said the trip provided educational opportunities that can be applied later in the year.

“Some of the questions on the STAAR test relate to life experiences that some children don’t have,” he said. “By taking them out to the fair, this gives them the experience of going to a regional fair.”

On Thursday (tonight), four Moran seniors – Allison Scott, Alyssa Allred, Emily Murk, and Samantha Hinkle – will compete in the fair’s Scholarship Calf Scramble.

More Trips

On Friday, Sept. 9, Moran eighth and ninth grade students attended Tarleton State University’s Ag Discovery Day in Stephenville.

“Our trip to Tarleton was really fun,” ag science teacher Minnie Denson said. “The students learned a lot about what Tarleton offers, and they got to see the main campus highlights along with a small viewing of the ag farm. They were very excited at the end of the day.”

Appreciation Dinner

Moran FFA will hold a Community Appreciation Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at Moran Event Center.

“We will have burgers and some sides,” Minnie Denson said. “We hope to have a good turnout so that we can show the community how much we appreciate their support.”

Hitting 100

John Denson announced that Moran’s enrollment surpassed 100 students this week.

“At least two of the ones who came in did so because of the four-day week,” he said. “They can have Fridays off to work.”
