Moran Independent School District earned a rating of “C” from the Texas Education Agency, with an overall score of 79 out of 100.

Because Moran is a small district, 2019 is the first year that it was awarded a letter grade instead of the previously used “Met Standard” or “Improvement Required” categories.

Moran’s Accountability Ratings this year were Overall “C” (79), Student Achievement “C” (78), School Progress “B” (80), and Closing the Gaps “C” (76).

Compared to last year’s numbers, the TEA ratings for Moran improved in all areas.

Student Achievement was up by eight points, School Progress increased by 11 ticks, and Closing the Gaps went from 60 to 76.

Last year, MISD was designated to have “Met Standard” with an Overall rating of 67 out of 100 points.

This year, the district was only one point shy of earning a “B.”

“Our teachers worked very hard in their classrooms to improve the performance of each student,” said superintendent Danny Freeman. “We take a holistic approach to student achievement and value a student’s civic mindedness, patriotism, core values, and social skills as well as academic achievements. I would venture to say that our community constituents would give us a grade much higher than a 79.”

According to the state agency, Moran performed exceptionally well in academic achievement in social studies and in post secondary readiness this year.

Moran also had a 100 percent graduation rate again last school year.
