Moran to get cold commodities

Albany News

Moran families certified eligible for monthly commodity distributions should receive cold items beginning this month.

The Moran City Hall is now equipped with a freezer, and according to Melissa Hobbs at the Shackelford County Justice of the Peace office, the county commissioners have approved the additional items.

“They are going to get cold commodities in June,” said Hobbs. “Sometimes it is hamburger meat, sometimes chicken or pork. It depends on what is available at the food bank.”

Commodity recipients in Albany already receive cold items, but until recently Moran City Hall did not have a place to store those items.

Pick-up dates for the June distribution of the commodity food program are June 6 at the Moran City Hall between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon and June 7 in Albany at the rear door of the JP office (the former county jail) from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Recipients who are unable to pick up personally can send a signed and dated note with someone else.
