The City of Moran, along with much of the State of Texas and other states across the nation, is starting to reopen after the recent coronavirus shutdowns.

Moran City Hall opened its doors to the public this Monday, May 4. The First Baptist Church of Moran is meeting in the sanctuary on Sundays, along with continuing online streaming of the service. DAs will be open and serving ribs, potato salad and red beans this Friday and Saturday.

“Of course, we want everyone to observe proper social distancing,” said city employee Teresa King.

King continued to work at City Hall throughout the closure, where she was available to the public by email, phone, or by appointment.

Grant Funds Available

According to King, all of the required paperwork for the sewer grant has been completed and turned in.

“Now we have the authority to use our grant funds from the Texas Department of Agriculture,” King said. “The grant is for $275,000 to use toward sewer upgrades.”

Bids were accepted last year, and the contract was awarded to Jacob Martin out of Abilene and Weatherford.

Community Garden

King was unable to plant the community garden last month but intends to do so this week.

“Plants have come in for the garden,” she said. “I’m feeling much better now and plan to start working in the garden this week.”

Donated plants include squash, zucchini, bell peppers, hot peppers, and tomatoes.

Grass Fire

There was a grass fire on land owned by Bobby Moore on Monday, May 4.
