Moran cafeteria gets $20,000 makeover

Workers at Moran Independent School District were busy doing regular maintenance on the facilities and have almost completed a major project, according to business manager Diedre Cauble.

“We are waxing all of the rooms and hallways, and have replaced the carpet in a couple of the rooms and the auditorium,” Cauble said. “But the major project that we are finishing up is a restoration on the cafeteria. We got a grant for $20,000 worth of improvements!”

The cafeteria will have a new stove, oven, steam tables, prep tables, and cold serving area.

“We’ve been working on it all summer,” Cauble said. “We are almost done.”

Dakota Fowler, the new girls head coach at MISD, met with the Lady Bulldogs volleyball team for their first practice of the season yesterday, Aug. 1.

Football

New athletic director and boys head coach Harley Ethridge met his team earlier this week, but practices won’t start until Monday, Aug. 6.

Moran’s first game is at Benjamin on Friday, Aug. 31, at 7:30 p.m.

The following week, Friday, Sept. 7, the Bulldogs will once again be on the road, this time to Rising Star for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the Wildcats.

Moran’s first home game will be on Friday, Sept. 14 when they host Sidney to a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Bulldog stadium, and Freeman is hoping that the home turf will be green by then.

“One of the hardest things this summer has been trying to get enough water to the grass on the football field to keep it alive,” said Freeman.

The Bulldogs are in District 6-A this year with Blackwell, Loraine, and Trent.

Open House

Meet the Bulldogs will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, followed by Open House/Meet the Teacher at 5:30 p.m. the same afternoon.
