Moran ag students stay busy

Moran FFA celebrated National FFA Week on Wednesday, Feb. 21 with a heifer parade for elementary students at the football field.

FFA students Caleb York, Zech Henderson, Kacenda Thompkins, and MaeKayla Kersey showed their Braunvieh heifers, while Landon Herrell brought his Chianina heifer. The five were among several animal projects Moran FFA students raised this year and have been exhibited at stock shows in Fort Worth, San Angelo and San Antonio.

“That got all the little kids interested,” Moran superintendentDr.John Denson said. “They sure enjoyed petting the heifers. It was a good deal for the elementary kids.”

Despite the hectic schedule students have had this show season, National FFA Week (Feb. 17-24) was relatively quiet regarding shows.

The action picks back up starting this weekend.

Moran meat judging teams will compete Saturday, March 2 at Clear Falls and Sunday, March 3 at the Houston LivestockShow&Rodeo. Horse judging will compete Monday, March 4, at Houston.

On Wednesday-Saturday, March 6-9, animal projects will head to Houston.
