MMPC to provide Christmas Day Feast

By Sandy Morris

Christmas is here, and as they have for the past 11 years, volunteers from Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church will make sure that no one in Albany misses out on the chance to enjoy a holiday meal on Christmas Day.

Church members are preparing a traditional dinner of fried turkey, brisket, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls, and dessert.

One of the organizers, Tamara Trail said the dinner is free to the public, and anyone is welcome, but no dine-in option is available this year.

“Typically, well over 100 people are served a Christmas meal at the church, and another 50 or more dinners are delivered,” said Trail. “This year, because of COVID, we are only offering delivery and to-go options.”

Each of the seniors who typically receives a meal from Vittles by Vehicle will receive a dinner, as well as others who are unable to come to the church.

The Christmas feast will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the church’s fellowship hall and will end around 1:00 p.m. on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

Pastor Anthony Ceder and Trail both request that, if possible, those who want a Christmas Day meal call the church office at 325-762-2038 ahead of time, so organizers know how much food to prepare.
