MMPC plans Christmas feast

Christmas is less than a week away and, as they have for the past few years, volunteers from Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church will make sure that no one in Albany misses out on the chance to enjoy a holiday meal on Christmas Day.

“We will deliver a holiday dinner of turkey, brisket, mashed potatoes and gravy, roll, corn, green beans, and dessert to each of the seniors that get Vittles by Vehicle on Dec. 25th,” said Tamara Trail, one of the organizers of the holiday feast. “This will be in addition to the normal VBV Monday, Wednesday, and Friday meals next week.”

And, although they will not offer a dine-in Christmas Day meal option this year, members are willing to fix to-go plates for others in the community as well.

“Anyone is welcome who would like a meal, and we will fix them up with a box-to-go,” said Trail. “We want to make sure that anyone else who is alone for Christmas, or who can’t cook, still has a good meal. Although it is delivery and take-out only, we have volunteers who are excited to see and visit with anyone who needs a meal.”

Pastor Anthony Ceder and Trail both requested that, if possible, those who want a Christmas Day meal call church secretary Kellie Sherwood at 325-762-2038, so that volunteers know how many to expect.

“It would be helpful if folks would let us know ahead of time, so we can have enough food prepared,” said Ceder. “It would be appreciated if they let us know if we need to deliver, or if they’re planning to stop by and dish out their own plate.”

The meal will be available at the church fellowship hall from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

“There are often people who are without family or caregivers, or who are having to work Christmas Day,” Trail said. “We hope these friends will stop by for a take-out box. We will also deliver to those who are unable to come to the church if they call us.”
