MMPC to host annual Christmas Day Feast

Anyone who doesn’t have plans to cook lunch on Christmas Day is invited to pick up a meal at the annual Christmas Feast set for 11:00 a.m. until 12:30p.m.attheMatthewsMemorial Presbyterian Church.

This is the 15th year that the church has provided meals for the community on Dec. 25. There is no charge.

This year, the meals will be take-out or delivery only, so that volunteers can spend the afternoon with their own families.

“A lot of our volunteers are going to be out of town this year, so the decision was made to provide take-out meals only so that there wouldn’t be a lot of table preparation and cleanup,” said Tamara Trail, who is one of the organizers. “We certainly welcome you to come in and visit with us while you make your plate the way you want it. This is intended to be a time to socialize as well as a ministry to provide meals.”

Sheaddedthattherehaven’t beenverymanywhohavecome and eaten at the church the last few years. Most have taken advantage of the take-out option.

“We want to help anyone on Christmas Day who may not have family in town for the holidays, or for anyone regardless of the circumstances who would like to come get a plate or two,” Trail said.

This year’s menu will include ham, turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls, gravy, and homemade desserts.

Those who would like meals can come inside the fellowship hall to get them or call ahead and someone will bring them out, Trail said. Advance notice of big orders is appreciated.

Deliveries will also be made to shut-ins that are normally served by Vittles by Vehicles. A limited number of deliveries to others who are unable to come to the church will also be made available, if delivery instructions are arranged in advance by contacting the church office at 325-762-2038.

First responders, such as those on duty at the sheriff’s office and EMS, will be served.

“You can come in, or we will bring it to you,” Trail said.

The food items have all been donated by members of the church, with Kory Ware and Cody Leech in charge of smoking the turkeys.
