Mission team leaves for Del Rio

Volunteers from First Baptist Church of Albany are once again donating their time and labor as part of an annual mission trip to Del Rio.

The six-member team of Sue Brown of Breckenridge and local residents Ricky Davis, Shane Fields, Nan Herrell, John Ross Reames, and Kyle Viertel departed Sunday, June 25 to again assist with a construction project.

Viertel said this year’s task is to finish out a bathroom that is being added to a house.

“Each time, we have a little different project,” he said. “The structure’s built, and we’ll do the plumbing, wiring, and put in the sinks. We’ll do some carpentry, putting up the walls and insulation, and sealing it up. We’re adding a window and putting in lighting and outlets.”

Viertel said the Albany team is working with a group from Waller, Texas.

“They’re going across the border and doing a mission in Mexico,” he said. “One of their guys is helping us with electrical work.”

The team stays at one of its earlier renovation projects, a house donated to River Ministry, which uses it as lodging for mission teams working in the Rio Grande area.

FBC members have often traveled to the border as well as to other states and countries on mission trips.

The mission team is set to return Friday, June 30.
