The Moran Independent School District received a grade of C from the Texas Education Agency, holding steady from the last ratings handed out in 2019.

The TEA assesses grades of A through F for accountability for districts and campuses throughout the state. The ratings were not issued the last two years because of COVID-related disruptions.

Moran principal Jo Hise said the district is taking steps to improve its rating.

“We’ve added another full-time interventionist,” Hise said. “We’re hoping that more one-on-one time with each student will bring them success.”

One factor Moran faces is that as a small district, it lacks the resources with which larger districts have to work.

However, Hise said, a small enrollment works in Moran’s favor in that it is easier to give each student individual attention.

Holding Steady

Hise said Moran’s enrollment has seen no change in the third week of the school year.

Moran adopted a four-day class week for this year with longer days that end at 4:17 p.m.

Hise said students have adapted to the new schedule.

“As far as I know, they seem to be adjusting fairly well,” she said.
